Steel walls explained
A steel wall is one of the most striking ways to divide a space while keeping it open and full of light. Despite the name, an Emezzi steel wall is not made from steel, but from aluminium. It has the slim, industrial steel look that many people want, with the practical benefits of the lighter aluminium.
What is a steel wall?
A steel wall is a fixed glass partition held in a slim metal profile. Such a wall is used to divide a room without closing it off. Unlike a solid wall, it lets light pass straight through, so you separate two areas while both keep their daylight and sense of space.
Steel walls are a popular way to create a separate home office, a quiet corner or a clear divide between for example a kitchen and a living room.
Where a door can be opened and closed, a steel wall stays fixed in place. You can also combine the two, with a wall that contains a pivot door or a sliding door. In this way, the wall part divides the space and the door provides the way through.
Steel walls made from aluminium
Our aluminium walls carry the same slim, black, industrial look as a traditional steel partition, but aluminium brings real advantages over steel. Aluminium is lighter, around 15 percent lighter than steel, which makes the wall easier to handle and to install, and asks less of your floor and ceiling.
Aluminium does not rust, so your wall keeps its look over the years with little upkeep. Our aluminium walls have a refined profile with no visible welding seams. For most people, the result is hard to tell apart from steel, at a friendlier price.
Where does a steel wall work best?
A steel wall works well when you want to divide a space while keeping it light and open. These are a few typical uses:
- A home office or study room, separated from the living area but still bright and connected
- A divide between a kitchen and a dining or living room
- An entrance hall set apart from the rest of the ground floor
- A folding wall or office wall in a workspace, where you want a silent space without solid partitions
The wall is secured to the floor and ceiling, so make sure both are solid and kept clear for the installation. An Emezzi dealer checks this during the measurement visit.
Made to measure in your colour and glass
Like every Emezzi product, a steel wall is made to measure, so it fits your space exactly. Choose the RAL colour that suits your interior. The standard finish is black (RAL 9005), but almost any RAL colour is possible. For the glass, pick clear glass, a tinted option such as bronze or grey, or matt glass for more privacy. Choose a glass option based on how much light and privacy you want. The glass is always laminated, for a strong and safe finish.
