A true double door is not simply two single doors placed side by side. Both parts are designed as one unit: matched profiles, aligned glazing bars, and a central meeting point that fits as one continuous design. Our double steel doors are powder-coated aluminium with a slim 30 millimetre profile. They are custom-made, to fit your doorway exactly.

When to choose a double over a single with side panel

The choice comes down to how the doorway is used. Double doors work best for wider doorways between 150 and 300 centimetres, where both doors need to open. Think a kitchen leading to the garden, a dining room, or a primary bedroom suite.

A single door with a fixed side panel is the right call when only one door needs to open. That said, when both doors do open, a true double is the more elegant solution.

Double steel doors work well in spaces where a single door would feel too small. A formal entrance hall is an obvious choice. Between a dressing room or walk-in wardrobe and the bedroom, double internal doors look purposeful without taking up extra space. Opening configurations: hinged, pivot, sliding or French steel doors

Each door configuration suits a different situation. Hinged double doors are the classic choice, with a central meeting stile where the two doors come together. Pivot doubles work best in tall openings.

Sliding doors are a good choice where floor space is tight. French doors, that open outward are the most popular configuration for garden-facing doorways, where you want both doors to swing open in one movement.

Central meeting stile, astragal or magnetic close

There are three ways to handle the point where the two doors meet. The middle bar is a slim vertical bar that runs down the middle: sturdy and clear to look at. An astragal strip covers the door from the front. This gives a neater finish when both doors are closed. A magnetic close has no visible hardware at all, which gives the cleanest look. For busy doorways or garden doors, the central divider is the safest choice. For bedrooms and dressing rooms, a magnetic close often works better.

Active and inactive door

With most double doors, one door is used for everyday access and the other stays fixed in place. The fixed door is held by a flush bolt or shootbolt at the top and bottom. This is the most practical setup for daily use. Do you want both doors to open fully? That is possible too.

Glass, finishes and proportions for double doors

With a double door, the glazing bars run continuously across both doors for a balanced look. Vertical bars align between the two doors, and horizontal bars cross the full width as if the doors were one. All standard colours are available: black, white, bronze, gold, and any other RAL colour.

Every double steel door is made to your exact measurements. After you order, we visit you at home to measure up, manufacture both doors in our factory, and install them for you.

The installation of a double door typically takes obviously more time than the installation of a single door. During the measuring visit, we also confirm whether any reinforcement is needed at the centre where the two doors meet. What's the maximum width for a double steel door?

The practical maximum for a true double is around 300 centimetres in total, with each door at 150 centimetres wide. Do you have a wider doorway? Fixed side panels alongside the active double doors are a good option. During our measuring visit, we confirm the safe maximum for your specific doorway.

Can both doors be made the same width?

Our standard is a true matched pair, with both doors at identical widths. Asymmetric doubles, where one door is wider than the other, are also possible. This is a solution to suit furniture placement or for the best sightlines in your room.
