Are Emezzi doors steel doors?

Not quite. Emezzi doors look like steel doors but are made from aluminium. Aluminium is lighter in weight, does not rust, and is easier to work with. The result is a door with slim profiles and a clean finish that is hard to tell apart from traditional steel.

Can I get an Emezzi door in any size?

Yes. Every Emezzi door is made to measure. There are no standard sizes. You choose the dimensions, the layout, the glass, the colour, and the handle. Use the configurator to design your door and see the price straight away.

What glass options are available?

You can choose from clear, grey, bronze and matt glass. All glass is 6 millimetres thick and laminated. Frosted glass is a good option if privacy matters. Other glass types are available on request. The glass type you choose affects both the look and the light in the room.

Are Emezzi doors suitable for indoor use only?

Most Emezzi doors are designed for interior use. That said, some products are also suitable for outdoor spaces or damp areas like showers. Not sure what works for your situation? Get in touch and we will help you find the right option.

How long do Emezzi doors last?

Aluminium does not warp or rust, so Emezzi doors stay straight and tight for many years. The powder coating protects the profiles against scratches and daily wear. Maintenance is simple: wipe them down with a damp cloth every now and then.

Are Emezzi steel doors actually made of steel?

Our doors are made from powder-coated aluminium. Aluminium is lighter than steel, does not rust, and allows for equally slim profiles. Once installed, the doors are impossible to tell apart from traditional steel doors, so you get the same look without the downsides that come with actual steel.

What's the difference between Emezzi and Crittall?

If you have been searching for slim-profile steel doors, you have probably come across the name Crittall. This is the original British manufacturer of steel windows and doors. They are still trading today. Emezzi is our brand that makes doors in a similar aesthetic, but uses aluminium instead of solid steel. The look is comparable, but Emezzi doors are lighter, lower in price, and require less maintenance.

How wide is the Emezzi profile?

The Emezzi profile is 30 millimetres wide across the entire range: pivot doors, hinged doors, sliding doors, and rebate doors, and in every colour finish. This matches the slim sightline of original Crittall steel doors closely. This gives you that characteristic look without needing solid steel frames.

What glass comes with an Emezzi door?

All Emezzi doors come with 6 millimetres laminated glass as standard. You can choose from clear, frosted, bronze, green, or grey. Frosted glass is a good choice if privacy matters. Other glass types are available on request. The glass type affects both the look of the door and the light in the room.

Are Emezzi doors difficult to maintain?

Wiping the profiles down with a damp cloth every now and then is all it takes. There is no need to repaint, reseal, or treat the aluminium. If a profile gets a small scratch, a touch-up pen in the correct RAL colour is available to keep it looking clean.

Why aluminium rather than steel?

Aluminium is roughly 15% lighter than steel, which puts less strain on hinges and tracks over time. It does not rust or corrode, manufactures faster, and comes at a lower price point. The profile width and finish match steel closely, so there is no visual compromise. There are just practical advantages.

What glass is used in Emezzi doors?

Pivot, sliding, and rebate doors come with 6 millimetres laminated safety glass as standard. All glass options, including frosted, reeded, bronze, and grey tinted, are laminated for safety and available across the entire range.

Are Emezzi doors fire-rated?

The standard Emezzi range is not fire-rated. For most residential and office projects, this is not a requirement. Fire ratings like EI30, EI60, and EI90 refer to how long a door can contain fire and heat, for 30, 60, or 90 minutes. If your project requires this, get in touch and we can discuss the options or point you in the right direction.

Pricing and what’s included

How much do Emezzi doors cost?

The price of our doors depends on the sizes you want, the door type, the glass specifications, finishes, and configuration. With us, there are guaranteed no hidden costs: the configurator gives you an exact price in real time, including measurement, manufacture, and installation. We always show you the price both with and without VAT.

Is the configurator price the final price?

The price you see in the configurator includes measurement, manufacture, and installation, and is displayed both with and without VAT. The only exceptions are out-of-standard items, such as bespoke RAL colours or weather-rated external variants, which are quoted separately. For standard specifications, what you see in the configurator is what you pay.

Are pivot doors more expensive than hinged?

Pivot doors are typically priced slightly higher than an equivalent hinged door. This is because of the pivot mechanism, soft-close cartridges, and tighter manufacturing tolerances involved. The configurator shows the price difference in real time, so you can compare both options directly before making a decision.

Are there finance options available?

Emezzi does not offer in-house finance directly. If you are planning a larger renovation, the most practical route is to speak to your contractor or builder about including the door cost in a wider project finance package. For any questions about payment, get in touch with the Emezzi team directly.

Ordering, lead times and installation

Is your question not listed?I’m happy to help!

What's the lead time from order to installation?

The typical lead time for our doors is six to ten weeks from signed quote to installation, subject to current production levels. The process runs in four steps: quote acceptance, manufacture, and installation. After you confirm your order, the dealer schedules the measurement within a fixed window.

Who installs the doors?

Installation is handled by Emezzi-authorised dealers. It is always included in the price, so there is nothing to arrange separately. You do not need to coordinate trades yourself or find your own installer. The dealer manages the full process from measurement through to installation.

Does the install include the frame?

For most of our doors, the aluminium frame is included and installed as part of the door system. Pivot doors do not require a separate frame, as the door pivots or runs directly within the opening. Any reinforcement needed to the floor, ceiling, or pocket is included in the installation.

Can I install an Emezzi door in an existing frame?

For hinged doors, this is possible if the existing frame is flush timber with a minimum depth of 49 millimetres. Emezzi installs a new aluminium frame inside the existing timber frame. The surveyor confirms during the visit whether the existing frame meets the requirements.

What does the surveyor do during their visit?

The surveyor takes exact measurements of the opening, confirms your chosen specification, and identifies any reinforcement or prep work needed. This is particularly relevant for pivot floor mounts and flush installs. The surveyor also confirms the installation date. A visit typically takes between 30 and 60 minutes.

Can I get a door in a non-standard RAL colour?

Any RAL colour is available. The most commonly specified options, including RAL 9005 black, RAL 9010 white, standard bronze and gold, are included in the configurator at no extra cost. Very unusual or metallic RAL colours may carry a small finish surcharge. The configurator will flag this when relevant.

How wide can a single door be?

The maximum width per leaf is 150 centimetres. For wider openings, a double-door configuration is a good option. Also, a single door with a fixed side panel is possible.

Can I have an arched or shaped top on my door?

Arched, fanlight, and shaped tops are all possible and particularly popular in heritage settings where the door follows the original architectural detailing of the building. Standard shapes are available in the configurator. Non-standard shapes are quoted during the our visit.

Can I match an Emezzi door with an Emezzi wall?

Doors and steel walls  share the same 30 millimetre profile, so they read as one continuous system. This is one of the strengths of the Emezzi range. The configurator handles door-plus-wall combinations as a single assembly, so you can design and price the full setup in one go. Do you want to know more? Read our blogs!

Warranty, aftercare and support

Is your question not listed?I’m happy to help!

What's included in the warranty?

The warranty covers the aluminium profile, the powder-coated finish, and the mechanical components including hinges, pivot cartridges, and sliding tracks. For the current warranty period and full terms, take a look at the Emezzi warranty page.

How do I clean and maintain an Emezzi door?

A damp cloth is enough for the profiles and a standard glass cleaner works for the panes. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the powder-coated finish. Once a year it is worth checking that hinges are tight and pivot cartridges are functioning smoothly, though this is rarely necessary.

Where can I see Emezzi doors in person?

Emezzi has several showrooms where you can see the full range in person. You can find the current locations on the showroom page. Authorised dealers across the UK can also show you the doors during a measurement visit. Booking ahead is recommended so an advisor is available to help.

Who do I contact if I have a problem after installation?

The first point of contact for any post-install issue is the dealer who installed the doors. If you are not getting a response, contact Emezzi directly through the contact page. The warranty is handled through Emezzi, so reaching out directly is always an option.
