Black aluminium door

Matt black is the default finish across the Emezzi range, and for good reason. The aluminium doors in black (RAL9005) are the doors with the finish that defined the crittall and industrial aesthetic in the first place, and it still reads as the most authentic choice in almost any interior.

Warm & timeless

The black aluminium door, slim profile in matt RAL9005

Emezzi’s black aluminium doors have a 30 millimetre powder-coated aluminium profile. The 30 millimetre profile is slim enough that the glass dominates and the frame recedes, which is what gives the door its characteristic look. In matt black, that profile reads as architectural rather than decorative, which is why it works across such a wide range of interiors.

Industrial aesthetic

Why matt black, and why RAL9005 specifically?

Matt black reads as authentic to the original 1920s and 1930s steel doors that inspired the crittall and industrial aesthetic. Gloss black reads as more contemporary and reflective, which is a different look entirely. The matt surface absorbs light rather than reflecting it, which is what gives the door its quiet, considered character.

Deep black is the European standard specification for the matt black industrial aesthetic. It is the same shade used by serious crittall-style manufacturers across markets, which means it reads correctly in a period terrace, a contemporary apartment, or a commercial fit-out. This colour works because it has been tested across decades of real installs.

Custom-made and tailored to your wishes

Where does a black aluminium door work best?

Black is the universal starting point for a reason. It works in almost any interior, which is why it is the default across the Emezzi range, if you need pivot, hinged or sliding doors.

Kitchen-to-living-room doors are the most common application of this product. A black aluminium framed glass door between an open-plan kitchen and a living room defines the two zones without closing the space down.

Hallway-to-stairs transitions in homes, home office partitions, and ensuite and dressing room transitions are also all natural fits for black slim profile doors. Garden room entrances suit the look particularly well, where the matt black frame and multi-pane glass echo the industrial windows that inspired the style.

For black aluminium crittall doors in Victorian and Edwardian-style houses, the finish reads as period-appropriate in a way that no other colour quite matches. In contemporary and minimalist interiors, it reads as a deliberate architectural choice rather than a trend.

Configure your black aluminium door

Design your black aluminium door step by step in our configurator. The black RAL9005 finish is standard at no extra cost, just like all other RAL colours. Enter your dimensions, choose your opening type, glass, and bar layout, and the price updates in real time as you go.

All four door types are available in black: pivot for statement entrances and taller door openings, hinged for the most versatile everyday configuration, sliding for tight floor plans, and flush for minimalist concealed installs. A matching black steel wall uses the same profile and finish, so the door and wall read as one continuous system.

Other finishes if black isn’t the right call

Black works for most interiors, but not all. For lighter colours, such as in Scandi interiors, black would feel too heavy. The white variant is the natural alternative. For warmer transitional interiors, bronze is a softer contemporary choice. For statement luxury contexts, gold is available. All standard finishes are included in the base configurator price, the same as black.

Custom-made dimensions, delivered and installed

Every Emezzi black aluminium door is made to measure. A specialist visits your home or project site for a measurement visit, confirms the opening dimensions, and checks the conditions on site. The maximum width per panel is 150 centimetres. For wider door openings, a double-leaf configuration or fixed side panels extend the system without breaking the visual line.

Your door is manufactured in our workshop in Nunspeet and installed by authorised dealers across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK and France. Your questions about lead times and installation are answered on the frequently asked questions page. Design your black aluminium door in the configurator and get an instant price.

Frequently asked questions about black aluminium doors

Is your question not listed? We’re happy to help!

Will the matt black finish stay matt over time?

Our powder-coated finish is UV-stable and engineered to retain its matt character over the long term. It doesn’t become glossy with use or sun exposure. The finish looks the same ten years after installation as it does on the day the door goes in.

Does black show fingerprints around the handle area?

Matt black hides fingerprints well in most lighting. The finish can show prints over time in raking light, particularly with frequent use. A quick wipe with a damp cloth is all it takes to keep the door looking clean.

Is RAL9005 not too dark for a small room?

In small rooms with limited natural light, a fully framed black door can look heavy. The way to counter that is to reduce the number of bars: a fully glazed or three-pane vertical layout keeps the glass-to-frame ratio high and the door reading light even in a darker space. For very small rooms with little natural light, the white variant is worth considering.

Can I get a different black than RAL9005?

Other black RAL-colours are available on request. For example, RAL9011 (graphite black) is slightly warmer. RAL9017 (traffic black) is very dark and slightly cooler. The differences are subtle in most lighting conditions. RAL9005 is the standard for good reason, but if your project calls for a specific shade, get in touch and we will confirm the options.
