The installation of rebate doors
The installation of rebate doors is one of the quickest among the steel-look doors, because in many cases the door goes straight onto the frame you already have. That keeps the job clean and fast, with little or no building work. To keep the door running smoothly and to keep your warranty valid, we recommend having an Emezzi dealer take care of the installation.
Still, it helps to know what the work involves, so you can prepare your space and know what to expect.

Working with your existing frame
Where a hinged door always comes with its own new frame, a rebate door often works with the frame you already have. This door closes over the frame and overlaps the edges slightly. In many homes the existing frame can stay in place.Â
In those cases, the installation asks little of your home. There is no need to break open the wall, there is no replastering needed and you don’t have to redecorate around the opening. The room stays as it is, just with a modern door.
Sometimes the existing frame does need to be replaced, for example if it is no longer in good condition. During the measurement visit, an Emezzi dealer checks which situation applies to you, so you know in advance what to expect.
What does to have prepared beforehand?
Before the installation, be sure that the old door is taken off its hinges, so the frame is clear and ready on the day. Also, make sure the area around the door opening is accessible. During the measurement visit, the dealer assesses the frame and takes the exact measurements, so the door is made to fit your opening precisely.
The steps of the installation of a rebate door
The installation itself is usually done within a few hours. When the existing frame can stay, the work is mostly about fitting the door precisely and hanging it so it swings and closes neatly.
The installer attaches the hinges and hangs the aluminium door onto the frame. The hinges blend into the colour of the door. After that, the installer checks if the door swings freely and overlaps the frame evenly on all sides when closed.Â
As a final step, the installer adjusts the door so it fits exactly right and closes firmly against the frame. The slim profiles have no visible welding seams, so the finished door has a clean line.
A door that suits most standard openings
Because the installation of a rebate door builds on your existing frame in most cases, the installation needs not much extra work. The main thing the installer checks is whether your current frame is sound, or whether it needs replacing first.
Keep in mind that a rebate door is only available as a single door. Do you have a wide door opening? A hinged door with its own frame is the better option.
Can I fit the door myself?
You can install the door yourself if you have some DIY experience. If you want, we provide a clear, step-by-step manual that takes you through each stage of installation. We help you with attaching the hinges and with hanging the door. Having an Emezzi dealer install the door is the surest way to a smooth result and keeps your warranty intact.
